Subaru Impreza WRC2008 to make Acropolis Rally Debut

The Subaru World Rally Team and STI confirmed today that the all-new Impreza WRC2008 will make its debut on the seventh round of this year’s World Rally Championship, the famed Acropolis Rally in Greece that runs from May 29 to June 1, 2008. Subaru will reveal all the technical details during an official launch in Athens Greece on the evening of Wednesday 28 May, prior to the start of the rally.

Described by the Japanese carmaker as “the most radically different Subaru World Rally Car in 15 years”, the Impreza WRC2008 will be driven at the Acropolis Rally by Petter Solberg and Chris Atkinson. Interestingly, Subaru has dropped its classic blue and yellow scheme on the new Impreza WRC2008 for a more dramatic livery that combines blue and grey. -Continued

“We are very excited to be able to launch the all-new Impreza WRC2008 ahead of schedule” said David Richards, Subaru World Rally Team principal. “It is testament to the dedication and commitment of the team behind the scenes in the UK and at STI in Japan. Just as the latest Impreza road car represents a new era for Subaru so the WRC2008 represents a new era for all of us at the Subaru World Rally Team and I am confident that we will arrive in Greece able to fight competitively.”

Subaru Legacy STI “S402” Limited Edition With 282Hp 2.5 Turbo

Subaru will extend its “STI” offerings in its home market with the introduction of the limited edition Legacy STI S402 Sedan and Touring models that will be available for sale in Japan from June 27. The S402 Legacy STIs are equipped with the same 2.5-liter turbocharged boxer engine as the US and European Impreza STIs, but in this case, output is restricted to 282Hp at 5,600 rpm and torque to 392 Nm (available between 2,000 and 4,800 rpm). Power is delivered to the wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox.

Other mechanical upgrades include a sport suspension, revised steering system (13:1 ratgio) and more powerful six-pot front and two-pot rear Brembo brakes. Apart from the subtle STi bodykit that includes a carbon-fiber front spoiler, the S402 Legacys feature wider fenders (+20mm) that host a set of beautiful 18-inch BBS alloys wheels wrapped in Bridgestone Potenza RE050A tires (235/40R18). Inside the most prominent features are the leather front bucket seats, the MOMO steering wheel and the “S402” plates. -Image Gallery after the jump

Changfeng Qi Ling CP1A: Subaru STI Chinese Lookalike

To be completely fair, only the front-end of Changfeng’s newest proposition shares any similarities with the previous generation Subaru Impreza WRX STi, but you have to admit, it’s a close call… For the time being, the Chinese automaker’s compact sedan is dubbed CP1A as the official name will be announced at the Beijing Auto Show on April 20. Despite the promising STI-themed front-end, the CP1A is equipped with a modest 1.8-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine. –More pics after the jump
