Peugeot Working on 308 Based “3008” Minivan

Peugeot is planning to introduce an MPV version of its compact size 308 model dubbed 3008 according to a report that aired last Friday on French radio station “BFM”. Although a spokesman for Peugeot declined to verify the report, he did reveal that the French carmaker’s Paris Motor Show stand would host a series of novelties. The 3008, which according to BFM will also feature a 4WD crossover version in its range, will compete against the C4 Picasso from Citroen, the Ford Focus C-MAX and the Opel Zafira.

UK Police Officers Get Diesel-Powered Peugeot 308s

Peugeot’s first 308 Police cars are due out on patrol this month in the UK. Based on the 308 1.6-litre HDi 90Hp, Peugeot’s Special Vehicle Operation (PSVO) in Coventry performed all the necessary changes to the standard car that includes a blue light bar, siren, PA system, hand set, control box, LED bumper lights and a full police livery. The next project for PSVO will be to adapt the brand new 308 SW estate vehicle for Police use. -Continued

Andy Bye, Manager of PSVO, said; “The 307 has been a success with UK Police fleets, and the improvements in the new 308 mean we have a very competitive proposition – a product that performs well at all levels. Police forces are increasingly mindful of the operational cost of running a fleet, and their impact upon the environment. The Peugeot 308 HDi 90 S combines low emissions and strong fuel economy, without compromising its role, with added practicality and performance.”

Peugeot 308 Diesel Sets New Fuel Economy World Record at 75.6 MPG or 3.1lt/100 km

John and Helen Taylor have secured a place in the “2009 Guinness Book of Records” as the gallant couple set two new fuel economy records when they drove around the coast of Australia in a standard Peugeot 308 HDi 110. During their 25 day, 9,000 mile long journey around the coast of Australia this April, the couple not only managed to record an unprecedented 1,192 miles or 1,917 km on just 60 litres or 15.8 gallons (US) of diesel fuel, but they also averaged a fuel consumption of 75.6 MPG US or 3.1lt/100 km.

According to Peugeot, with their accomplishment, the 308 HDi 110 hatchback now holds the World Record for both the highest average fuel consumption on a journey, a record previously held by a Peugeot 307 hatchback, and the record for the furthest distance travelled on a single tank of fuel. -Continued

John Taylor, commented: “We were very aware of the strong environmental credentials of the 308 before we set out on this journey; but we had no idea, however, that it would be such a record breaker. For us, the Peugeot 308 is the perfect family car; it can comfortably seat five adults and during our 25 day trip, the boot space proved itself too, swallowing up our entire necessary luggage.”

Along with the all-new 308 SW, this year’s Geneva Motor Show will also form the stage for Peugeot to unveil the new 308 GT THP 175. This new top of the range model is powered by the 1.6 litre turbo-charged THP 175 HP petrol engine, previously found in the 207 GTi THP 175. It is also fitted with a new 6-speed manual gearbox.

The same powertrain is also used in the MINI Cooper S as the 1.6-liter turbo engine has been designed in co-operation with the BMW Group. According to Peugeot, the sporty 308 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 8.3 sec while it achieves a top speed of 140 mph – 225 km/h. -Continued

Geneva Preview: Peugeot 308 SW

French carmaker Peugeot is expanding the 308’s line-up with the addition of the SW version that was first previewed at last year’s Frankfurt Show through the 308 SW Prologue Concept. Like the outgoing 307 SW, the 308 SW combines elements from conventional estate cars and medium size MPVs. Compared to the 308 hatchback, the wheelbase of the 308 SW has been increased by 100 mm and the rear overhang by 124 mm, thus allowing the addition of a third row which can sit two more occupants (seven overall).

Set to go on sale in Europe before summer, the 308 SW’s line-up includes a wide variety of powetrains. Petrol engine offerings consist of the naturally aspirated 95 HP 1.4-liter and 120 HP 1.6-liter units as well as the 1.6-liter turbocharged unit available with 140 HP (Auto), 150 HP and 175 HP. The diesel engine options include the 90 HP 1.4-liter, 110 HP 1.6-liter and 136 HP 1.6-liter. –Details after the jump

PRESS RELEASE:

THE NEW PEUGEOT 308 SW OPENS UP A WORLD OF MOTORING EXPERIENCES

  • World premiere at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show
  • Replaces the 307 SW
  • Larger, improved modularity and class leading safety
  • On sale in the UK in June 2008

This year’s Geneva Motor Show will be the stage for Peugeot to unveil the new, innovative and practical 308 SW, which will replace the 307 SW.

Launched in April 2002, the Peugeot 307 SW offered a stylish and innovative alternative for customers who, for practical reasons, found that a hatchback vehicle lacked the flexibility and size they required and were uninspired by the design of conventional estate cars and medium size MPVs. Since its launch in the UK, the 307 SW has sold over 40,000 vehicles.

Like the 308 hatchback, the 308 SW builds on the strengths of its predecessor but develops them even further. For example, the panoramic glass roof is now 27% larger (total area of 1.68 m2) and extends beyond the heads of the second row passengers, the modularity is easier to operate and improved and it now has a very practical opening rear tailgate glass.

A lot of attention has also been paid to the modularity of the 308 SW so that it can be adapted simply and efficiently, according to the requirements of its occupants. The rear seats in the second row are all individual, easy to remove, identical in size and offer a multitude of combinations.

To enable seven occupants to be carried, two occasional rear seats can be fitted in the third row.

Access to the rear load area is either via the rear tailgate or the opening rear tailgate glass. With the second row seats in place it can accommodate up to 674 litres (573 dm3 VDA) under the rear load cover. With the seats removed it provides a total volume of 2,149 litres up to the level of the roof (1,736 dm3 VDA).

The 308 SW is based on platform 2 of the PSA Peugeot Citroën group and compared to the hatchback, the wheelbase of the 308 SW has been increased by 100 mm and the rear overhang by 124 mm.

With regards to secondary safety, the structure (thanks in particular to the presence of three impact absorption beams) has been designed to provide optimal protection, combined with the ability to absorb the maximum amount of impact energy in a controlled manner. In addition, the SW can be equipped with up to seven airbags, including a steering column airbag.

The 308 SW is available with a wide choice of modern, high performance, economical and environmentally-friendly powertrains.
The use of the latest technology in both the petrol and diesel engines, combined with the car’s efficient aerodynamics, weight saving measures and the use of Michelin Energy Saver tyres, reduces the fuel consumption, compared to the 307 SW, by up to 10% .

With regards to road holding, the suspension set-up and wheel size options have been borrowed from the 308 hatchback but revised to meet the special requirements of the SW version.

The 308 SW range will go on sale in the UK in June and more information concerning specification and prices will be announced nearer the launch date.
